History

The story of Cognac in the Roux family begins at the end of the 19th Century, with a first "Domaine" in the commune of Mortiers, where the ancestors of Jean-Pierre, the current owner, owned a few hectares together with a still.

In 1929, Marie, who inherited the vines in Mortiers, and Pierre Roux, recently married, decided to buy a property at Saint-Maigrin, home of the current Domaine, and established the first distillery in the 1940s.

For several decades the activity prospered thanks to Pierre who developed, alongside his butchers business, the vineyards, and then Jean Claude, his son, the current cellar master, became the proprietor at the beginning of the 1970s and created the brand Castel-Sablons.

30 years later, production is located exclusively at Saint-Maigrin in the heart of the Fons Bois appellation.

A commercial enterprise, Domaine Castel-Sablons, was born, whose remit is to market and sell the Cognac and other products in the range (Pineau des Charentes, Brulot Charentais, grape juice, cooking alcohol).
